You can only submit an appeal once you have received an official letter / email regarding the University’s decision/ OR if you have missed the deadline to submit a Mitigating Circumstances Claim.
Deadline to Appeal
The deadline to submit your appeal is 10 working days from the date of a decision. The date of the decision is the date you received a formal notification from the University.
Your deadline date will usually be stated in your decision letter.
If this is not the case, you can work out your deadline date by counting 10 working days starting from the day after the date of your decision. Remember that weekends and bank holidays are not counted. Please forward over the decision letter if you would like an advisor to confirm your deadline date for you.
Appeal Procedure
There are two stages to the University’s internal Appeals process.
Stage 1 Appeal
In the first stage of the appeals process, you’ll need to complete the University’s Appeal Form, including as much information as possible in your statement, and submit this alongside strong supporting evidence to the Student Casework Office (casework@londonmet.ac.uk)
Once you have submitted your appeal, the Student Casework Office will confirm receipt and provide a date by which you will receive an outcome (this is normally between 4 to 6 weeks)
If you are unhappy with the outcome, you have the opportunity to Request a Review, which is the second and final stage of the University’s appeal process.
Stage 2 Appeal
When requesting a review of your appeal, you’ll need to complete the University’s Appeal Review Form and ensure to respond directly to any points raised by the University in your outcome letter.
The outcome letter will state any reasons why your appeal was rejected, so you will need to explain why you dispute these reasons.
If you have acquired any further evidence in support of your appeal, you can submit this during the second stage of the appeal process, but you will also need to provide a reason for why the evidence was not submitted previously.
The deadline to submit your second-stage appeal will be stated in your outcome letter.
Final stage Office of Independant Adjudicator (OIA)
Once you have exhausted the University’s internal appeals process, and if you are unahppy with the final outcome, you may submit a complaint to the OIA.
