Hello everyone, my name is Patricia Lebbie, and I would love the opportunity to represent you as a candidate for the Student Union Council Member this year. I am a foundational year student in BSc Hons in Computing.

The Covid-19 pandemic has had a huge impact on our education and university experience over the last 12 months.

If I were to be elected as a student councillor, I would commit to addressing the major challenges presented by the pandemic.

In particular, I would:

Ensure students (especially the new students) know where to get help and information when necessary and feel comfortable doing so. I have experienced the confusion caused by covid-19 concerning our studies and it is important all students feel confident speaking about these problems and knowing how they can be addressed.

Work hard to make sure no student feels isolated. Making new friends, knowing course mates and lecturers has been very difficult during the pandemic, so I plan to work with the student union and the university to create an online platform where new and continuing students can meet for academic/non-academic support, help them to stay focused on their studies during the lockdown or just chat with someone new. 

So I plan to work with the student union and the university to create an online platform that allows students to have a study buddy or buddies.

Work with the university to develop new standards for lecturers, modules tutors and course leaders to respond to student queries in a timely way.
