NAZMUL HOQUE KHAN

we make change happens

Hello Everyone,

I am Nazmul Hoque Khan, a third-year  BSc(Hons) Cyber Security and Forensic Computing (top-up) student who has experience as a  study abroad as a student advisor and work for a different charity,

If I elected as a Full-time Officer AAD & Computing and Digital Media 2021-22

 I will:

= hold cultural exchange fairs regularly with international food, music, and film.

= launch a Regular Computing and Digital Media Related seminar with different backgrounds.

= facilitate regular drop-ins for international students.

= lobby for more tutors from different backgrounds.

= Food Bank  For the student who needs -support from different background

Whilst working, I have received feedback that many students feel difficulty connecting with students from other cultures. I think it is evidence that we all want to understand each other better. I believe this miscommunication or misunderstanding related to cultural differences. Many students take the responsibility of reducing the distance, but I think the university should also hold this responsibility. Furthermore, student feedback has noted the difficulty in finding an easily approachable liaison or team when they need any kind of help related to university or London life. Accessible platforms supporting study-abroad life is urgently needed especially International student.

For the cultural gap and accessible platforms, the university offers some events; however, I think they require restructuring. The issue is that they are mostly temporary and sporadic. I believe fewer, more accessible platforms would be better than many, less accessible events. I will focus on practicality, diversity, and accessibility by the five suggested schemes. Another problem that I found in the current system is events advertisement. Even though there are some useful platforms, most students do not know that these are offered, due to inconsistent organisation and advertisement. I will solve this problem.

Cultural Exchange Fairs

Our Students’ Union has several national communities. With them, I will regularly hold cultural exchange fairs with international food, music, and film. This will be accessible to all students. We can communicate with peers from diverse backgrounds and help you find more friends interested in your culture.

Drop-ins

There is little advice regarding UK life concerning housing contract, medical systems and so on. Some new students may not know where they can ask these days, but necessary, questions. I will work with the admission department to facilitate international student specialised drop-in sessions.

Peer-Assisted Learning English Scheme

Many international students whose first language is not English struggle with language in university life. I have seen many friends who seek an appropriate platform to improve their English. I will work with the English Language Centre to provide a group setting study with peers. This will provide a safe platform and motivation where you can study effectively.

=Tutors from Different Backgrounds

To broaden international perspectives, we need more tutors from different backgrounds, and I will lobby this to the university. This will help academic staff to understand international students’ diverse backgrounds and consider international students' interests when they make decisions about learning and teaching.
