Who I am:
My name is Jamie (They/Them). I am a student in Law at London Met, and I am running to be your LGBTQ+ Officer for the year 2021/2022. I have 14 years of experience as an activist for the LGBTQ+ community. During that time, I have promoted cultural events about LGBTQ+ cinema and literature, organising Pride and marches against homophobia. In the previous years, I have worked speaking about sexuality in school, done meeting sessions about sexual health and sexuality. I also have experience in HIV testing and supporting the transgender and Non-Binary community in London. I started to work in December as LGBTQ+ Students officer, and I wish for a second election to continue with the project I am starting this year. LGBTQ+ community have a fantastic cultural heritage, and I think it is the best means we have to reach equality.
What I wish to do:
• Support the LGBTQ+ student when they face university issues and find which services address them if they need external support.
• Support and continue the student union and student societies work about a solution about the choose pronouns respect, for transgender and Non-Binary people is an important aspect of affirming who they are.
• Collaborate with the school officers to create a project that connects LGBTQ+ community issues and culture with the schools’ specific subject to educate about equality and inclusion.
• Collaborate with the LGBTQ+ staff network and create a more inclusive community supporting LGBTQ+ rights as the community and not as different groups.
