A wise man (my lecturer) once said, “Don’t just attend college to graduate. Relish this life-changing experience!”
Hi everyone! I’m Vaidehi Apte, and I’m here to facilitate you all to have the best time of your lives at the university. A little about my background – I’m from India who came to study MSc Food Science at London Met with a bag full of dreams. Everything was going well as I was elected to be the student representative of my class. It was at this time that I discovered my leadership qualities. Lesser did I know that a monster named Corona would crush my dreams. But, I did not lose hope and you shouldn’t too. I made complete use of my time and went on to be an active member of the student council where I conveyed the issues raised by students to higher authorities by acting as a bridge between the two.
If elected, the following would be my missions to accomplish:
- Better connection between the students and SU
Some of the students (especially the new ones) don’t even know how vast our student union is and what all amazing capabilities it has. I’m going to make sure to reach out to as many students as I can and enlighten them about all the elements of SU. I will encourage them to be an effective part of it. It is not easy to do so with the ongoing pandemic, but let’s not forget the immense power that social media holds. It’s very convenient to connect to almost anyone we want. Students are the most crucial element of the SU and without them, it would be voiceless.
2. Walking towards sustainability
We cannot unsee the fact that climate change is real. If we don’t do anything about it, our next generation may suffer from it. If elected, I will get a huge platform to act upon it with the help of London Met’s sustainability team. I would like to assist in upcoming events such as Fairtrade University Award, various volunteering opportunities, and most importantly the Hedgehog friendly campaign to increase biodiversity in our urban campus. That’s also the reason why I chose hedgehog as my official mascot!
3.All about the money, honey
To be honest, the Covid situation has hit us hard. It’s quite unfair that the students have been paying the same fees, without even using any of the facilities on campus. Even after signing numerous petitions, nothing has changed. I understand that the sole reason for this is that it’s a chain reaction. If the student’s fee is reduced, the lecturers and other staff would get paid less.I will try my best to incorporate this topic in every meeting that I will have with the higher authorities so that they would reduce or reimburse the fees at least to some extent.
So, what are you waiting for?
Chose me as your #1 preference and remember, United V Stand!
