Disabled doesn't mean unable!

Hi! My name is Sophie and I am a 2nd year LLB Law student at London Met. I am applying for the position of Disabled Students' Officer. I have been a Type 1 Diabetic for 16 years and have overcome some challenges and want to promote the fact that Diabetes doesn't define who you are but instead enhances who you are!

I value equality and diversity and I try to promote and encourage these values as much as possible in everything I do. The United Kingdom is getting better at diversifying these values within the work place but there are still many people who face unemployment issues due to their disabilities. I got diagnosed with Diabetes at 6 years old and have faced constant challenges with the way people view diabetes as an illness. I found that many people were not educated in the difference between Type 1 and Type 2 (and all the other various types-which I didn't even know about!) and I faced unemployment for a short period of time due to me needing to be allowed a break to monitor my sugar levels which my employers did not understand. This has made me passionate to promote strong rights for people who have disabilties- whether these are visible disabilities or not!

This is why you should vote for me to be your Disabled Students' Officer!
