The Students' Union is very proud to announce that it has received funding to support local organisations and people into sport. The Student Union has always prided itself on its commitment to the local community as well as to students and in 2016 the SU is emabrking on the following worthwhile programmes:
Get fit with your ability (funded by Sportivate)
This programme is for students and members of the community who have some form of disability or difficulty and wish to take part in sport or fitness activity. The SU is supporting community groups gain valuable travel training around Londons travel networks with the result in students and local people accessing FREE sport and healthy living sessions. The SU will also be supporting regular attendees into sporting exit routes either at the University or in their communities to help people live healthier for longer.
Wednesday 12-2pm in the Science Centre (starting in late October)
Women's sport without barriers (funded by Sportivate)
Many of our partners and students have stated that they struggle to take part in sport or physical activity due to confidence, cultural barriers or awareness of what is available for women. The SU is running weekly women only sessions with a variety of sports, classes and martial arts offered to create awarenss around the different sports that are available and support women live and feel healthier. All classes have exit route opportunities and the SU have committed to a year of the programme.
Friday 6-8pm in the Benwell Road gym (starting in late October)
Danny's SU Sport circuit (funded by the SU)
The SU believe that sport and well being is one of the top ways to improve the student experience. The SU is running informal weekly keep fit classes for all staff and students in a bid to help them be a better version of themselves. Danny himself is on a health and fitness campaign before hig "Big Day" in March so come down, get fit and have fun.
